Art For A Chanel Theme Bedroom on The Cheap

Re-Cap On Our Rad Chanel Themed Bedroom Re-Do

A few weeks ago we started to redecorate my teen daughter’s bedroom to the theme of Chanel. We recently had a posting on a vase that we hand made to match the bedroom. Currently we are busy painting the bedroom a beautiful lavender grey. Picture’s will follow soon.

Chanel Inspired Art Work

coco01This was truly the easiest art project ever. I went to the Dollar store to obtain my frames. I am after all on an enormous budget on this entire bedroom re-do. I found these silver frames with black accents. Perfect for a Chanel inspired room. I bought the frames in the two most common sizes. 8X10’s and 5X7’s. coco11My idea was to print out famous quotes by Coco Chanel on my printer in black and white and to frame them.coco03 I wanted a few to be just the quotes themselves and a few to be the quotes along with Coco Chanel’s image as well.

The final Product

coco07I was very pleased with the final product. I ended up with a collage of what I thought might look cheap but really looks quite elegant together. I can’t wait to get them on the wall. Since we are painting they aren’t on the wall yet but rest assured I will to a follow up to show you them on the lavender grey wall.

Increase Your Kitchen Storage With This Five Minute Project

Getting It Done

blog10I love to organize and re-organize my kitchen every chance I get. I am always thinking, “there has to be a better, more efficient way to store all this crap”. Every cabinet is overflowing with stuff and counter tops, well, don’t get me started on counter tops. I could use an entire post on counter tops alone. I am guessing you could to. Don’t get me wrong. My kitchen stays relatively clean, I just can’t find anything.

Counter Space Help

blog01This project isn’t brain surgery nor will it be your ah ha moment but it might just help you cook smarter and give you a tad more counter space to use in the kitchen.

Let The Games Begin

blog05The hardest part of this project was finding a heat proof organizational platter of sorts that could sit safely on the stove top and take the heat.  It also needed to be the correct size to sit over two of the burners on my stove top. Boy, did I get lucky. I was dropping off some donations at my neighborhood Goodwill and decided to go in.blog07 I shop resale stores all the time. I love resale stores over any other store. Let me tell you though about the sticker shock I got at my local Goodwill. Yes, sticker shock at Goodwill. I mean the items are donated for goodness sake. I know they have overhead but wow! They should be ashamed of themselves. I have to rethink shopping there again. Salvation Army, here I come.

Thank you for listening to my rant.

blog09I did however find a stainless steel pan that would fit over my burners perfectly. It was .99 cents but only because I talked the lady behind the counter to lower the price. It was the perfect piece though, so it came home with me.

The piece I decided to use was a metal baking pan. Yes, the pan could be used as is but it was beat up and didn’t match my kitchen. So. Spray paint time. I love to spray paint. In this case I used black, specially for high heat. You have to use a specialty paint for high heat because you are using the pan next to a very hot surface. WARNING! DO NOT USE THIS PAN TO COOK ON OR TO PUT ON A FLAME OR IN THE OVEN!

I took the pan outside and sprayed both sides and waited until it dried. After the sheet dried it was ready to be used.

The Final Product

blog11The pan can be used on the stove on top of the two burners on the stove top. I place ingredients I am going to need to cook with on the pan so they are all right there organized in arms reach when needed.

Aside from cooking ingredients, you can use it to hold utensils or anything really that needs storage. I am so pleased that I decided to take on this little project because the extra counter space really comes in handy!

An Easy Trick to Make Your Closet’s and Drawer’s Smell Divine

Gather Your Supplies

sache01This is literally a five minute project if you have all your supplies on the ready. A few of your supplies might need to be ordered and a few might need to be procured at your local store. The key is having everything on hand when you start this project to make it a quick project with awesome results. You will need:sache06sache05

  • An empty bottle to mix your ingredients
  • Unscented Epsom salts of any brand purchased at any store
  • Aromatherapy scented laundry crystals in your laundry aisle
  • Empty sachet organza bag or an empty burlap sack of 4X6 or smaller
Assembling Your Sachet

sache07Mix equal parts Epsom salts and scented laundry crystals. Then mix, mix and mix. Once the two ingredients are mixed take a second to smell how wonderful the mixture you just made is. It’s intoxicating, right? Pour 1/2 to 3/4 of the mixture into your burlap or sachet bag. Tie it off. TaDa! You just made the essence of what the closets in your house will smell like.sache11

Where can These be Used

sache13I use these wonderful smelling sachet’s in closet’s, drawer’s, under the bed and in the bathroom. My house always smells deliciously wonderful the minute you walk in. Trust me. These will change the way you look at smells. sache12

Chanel Accent Bedroom Project on a Budget

Easy to Complete Projects for Our Chanel Bedroom Re-Do

If you have been following along, then you know I am re-decorating my daughter’s bedroom to transform it into a Chanel paradise for her. I was going to paint this weekend but I got just to lazy to paint.  The painting will have to happen another time. I am currently working on easy budget friendly projects to help add some Chanel-like decor to her bedroom up-do.

Flower’s and Vase

vase18I started  compiling a list of Chanel type decor that would go in this bedroom. Since I am on a budget of no more than $125.00,  I have to be very very careful where my money gets spent. Hence, the cheaper the better. I am going to show you a very inexpensive project I have been working on that will go into the final bedroom as an accessory for the desk or dresser.

Chanel Budget Project to Help Enhance the Room

This was an easy project  I was able to complete in an hour. This was  including the drying time of the paint. I apologize for forgetting to take a picture of the can/vase I was using for this project before I began.vase05 It was hot pink when I started as you can see from the inside of the vase. It is a tin can that I am using as a vase. My daughter’s accent colors besides black and white is lilac or a  light purple. I mixed a very deep purple that I had on hand with grey. Both paints on hand, I achieved this beautiful lilac color by mixing the two colors. I used two different chalk paints,  so no prep work was needed before I painted the lilac onto the hot pink tin. vase03I applied three coats. After the first two coats of the chalk paint I used a steel wool pad and lightly sanded the tin  so it would have a smooth surface. I then applied one last coat and then a clear protective wax for durability.vase06 I felt wax was a good enough protective coating  for the paint since it was just going to be sitting on a desk or shelf.

After I applied the clear wax that I purchased at Joann fabric awhile ago, I waited over night for the wax to cure to make sure the coating stayed durable.

I  purchased a black sparkle banding in the wedding section of Hobby Lobby at 50% off. It was $2.50 for the roll with plenty of the roll left  for other projects.vase07 I was using the banding to wrap a few pieces around the vase to add a little panache. I used a small hot glue gun to adhere the banding to the vase. I decided two bands would contain just enough flair for this Chanel inspired bedroom. As you can see from the picture below I had my banding ready to go and cut to size before I plugged in my hot glue gun. I was very carefully and used the hot glue to place the band around the vase.

vase10After the bands were placed around the vase, I needed to go to work on the flower bundle I purchased in the wedding department as well at Hobby Lobby for 50% off. vase13The flower puff was $5.00 with the discount. I decided that the flower puff also needed a little flair. I had tiny rhinestones already in the house.  I knew it would look more fun to add them to the petals for extra sparkle. It would add to the sparkle fun.vase12 When I think of Chanel I think of elegance and sparkle goodness. Elegance and fun=Chanel. I placed the flower puff inside the  vase so only the petals that were going to show, were, well, showing. This way I only needed to  add rhinestones to where you would be able to see the petals. I put a dab of glue about the size of the tip of a pin head onto the petal and then used a tweezers to add the rhinestones.vase17 I suggest using Adhesive Tech glue for such precise projects. This glue is great for design work on paper and fabric as only a very fine line of glue comes out of the bottle every time. It can be found at Walmart for around $2.00, if you need to find it.

vase15After I added the rhinestones to the petals, I placed the flower puff into the vase. There we have it. A Chanel looking vase that matches our bedroom color’s on a budget.

Material’s Listing with Cost

Metal tin bought at Hobby Lobby for $2.40

Lilac and grey chalk paint was on hand and free

The black banding was 50% off and was a cost of $2.50

Flower puff bought also at Hobby Lobby in the wedding section at 50% off was the most expensive piece at $5.00

Rhinestones were on hand so basically free

Also on hand was the hot glue and glue gun as well as the wax that was used during this project. The total cost for the matching Chanel bedroom accessory was $9.90 and took less then an hour not counting letting the wax cure overnight.

What Chanel inspired bedroom projects can you dream up on a budget? I can’t wait to hear.

Rad Bedroom Re-Do on a Budget, Getting Started-Part One

How To Get Started

In my case getting started was easy because the room that was being re-done is my teenage daughter’s room and well, she knew what she wanted to do already. She wants to go from what she currently has, seen throughout the pictures to a Chanel themed room. So what I am saying is that it is important that you first pick a theme or a color pallet to work with first before you get started re-doing anything.

Now What Do I Do Now That I Have My Theme

r01Chanel is very upscale and glamorous. They also use black, white coloring as well as stripes to pull the Chanel  theme together. I needed to take a complete inventory of what items I had on hand that could be used. I will save a lot of money by re-using materials I already own.r06 I also suggest making a list of items that need to get done to make your vision a reality.r04

My To Do List

r06I need to decide whether or not to re-use the furniture she already owns. Since I am on a budget the answer was definitely ,yes I will re-use her current furniture. I had to think about art for the walls as well as colors to use on what items. I highly suggest you go to your local Salvation Army, Goodwill, Savers or any other resale shop near your house to start getting creative. Look outside the box. Look at items in a new way. Ask yourself, “Can that be painted.” Is there another intended purpose I can use this item for? BE CREATIVE! It’s your chance to be cheap, creative and think outside the box. You will be so pleased with your outcome.r10

Use of Space

r13This needs to definitely be mentioned. How is your space being used currently and can it be re-arranged to suit your purposes more efficiently?  Can it suit your needs differently? In my case I moved the bed to the opposite wall of the room and it changed the entire dynamics of the bedroom.r16

r17Once you have an idea of your theme and the items you have and need to purchase, you can go ahead and lay out the projects that need to be completed to finish out your space. In my space, for example my project list would look like this:

Find oops paint in a lavender grey to paint the walls and paint the walls.

Look for black and white bedding for a designer look (Done)

Paint boxes bought at Goodwill in black, white and striped black and white

Paint the inside of letter J light up black

Print out famous quotes by Coco Chanel, then take them to Kinko’s to be sized for picture frame collage

Paint large mirror we already own either white or black or white with a black wax overlay

I think you get the gist of what I am talking about. Because I am re-shaping this room on a very tight budget I am also painting the furniture with oops cabinet paint I found in black. Don’t get discouraged. Rome was not built in a day and your room transformation will take time. You are saving yourself a ton of money. Remember that as well as the results will be fantastic if  you take your time.

r13So far in my teen bedroom makeover, I have rearranged some of the furniture. More will be rearranged as it is transformed into another color. I picked out the bedding for the re-do and I have laid out my up coming projects. This room will take a while to complete but I can’t wait for the finished reveal.

Stay with me each week as we get farther along in the room re-decorating process.

r17FYI, painting the walls this weekend is my first major undertaking in the transformation.

I can’t wait to hear and see what room y’all are going to re-do on a budget.

P.S. This room is very large and I tried to get picture’s from many angle’s.

Keep Your Leather Handbags Looking New and How To Clean Them Correctly

pur27The following information is from Cosmopolitan magazine, but the how to clean your leather and keep it looking shiny new is purely my content and ideas.

When you’ve invested a lot of money in a handbag, making sure it’s a forever item is a must. But taking care of leather goods can be tricky – and when it’s an item you seriously care about, so much more is a stake.

The place to start, says Jordan Smith of the Handbag Clinic, is with prevention. “Always protect your bag with a reputable protection cream/treatment. This should be done from day one and applied at least once every two to three months.”

“Proper protection can prevent staining, grease penetration and can prevent all manner of issues later on.”pur01

“As well as protecting, regular cleaning, even if it is just a quick wipe-down, is a must. For a quick wipe-down, a damp cloth is enough, but typically bags will need a more thorough clean by a professional or using specialist cleaning products every 2-3 months to keep them in top condition.”

I suggest keeping your bag covered either with the dust cover that came with the bag or with an old pillow case. This will keep your bag dust free while not in use.

To maintain the shape of the bag, keep your handbag stuffed with butcher block paper or white rags. This will definitely help keep your bag’s shape while in closet storage.pur05

I personally own about 75 to 100 designer bags. Yes, I have a handbag fetish, but I also maintain three websites that I resell gently used designer bags on. I feel this is why I am an expert in keeping  bags looking their best,  because best is what I strive for. In the process of striving for the best cleaning process, I’ve tried them all. At least it seems like I have tried them all.

How To Clean Your Leather Handbag

Always go with the grain of the leather while cleaning or applying product.pur11

I like to use Castile soap with any mild scent and distilled water. I mix 1 to 2Tbs. soap with one bottle or 16.9 FL OZ of the distilled water. Mix until you have slight bubbles. I also have a couple of rags and an old toothbrush on hand as well. Dip the edge of one of the rags is the soapy water and wring out the rag so it’s basically damp. Start wiping down the handbag.pur12 If there is a stubborn stain or dirty area use your toothbrush to gently rub the spot. Gently rub spot with your rag or toothbrush until the spot comes clean.pur14

While cleaning leather is not rocket science, common sense is necessary. If your stain is ink,  the above process will not work no matter how hard you scrub. You will just ruin your bag. I am strictly talking about dirt stains now in the above paragraph. Different stains aside from general dirt have different processes. Please use your common sense.

pur24I’ll tell you however my favorite leather cleaning product for any stain is Lincoln E-Z cleaner. It safely cleans suede, leather, buck, vinyl, nylon, linen, canvas, satin and nu-buck. This product is truly my go to stain remover for leather stains of all sorts. Follow bottle directions. It can be purchased at your local cobbler or on line. Aside from this cleaner, I wouldn’t use anything else to clean a stain until a professional has been consulted.

Back To Cleaning

After the handbag has had a good wipe down with the soap and water, it is time to let it dry. After the handbag has fully dried and is clean I like to add polish.pur16 I use Meltonian boot and shoe cream polish. It is a leather polish and safe to use on bags. I use a dabber to apply the polish to the handbag. I use the same color polish of the handbag. I will mix colors if I need to,to get a color I don’t have but can make.pur19 Otherwise I order the appropriate color before I start the cleaning process.

I wait until the polish has completely dried and then I will use a horsehair brush to polish the cream polish to a dull shine.pur22 At this point you can then use a clean rag after the horsehair brush and bring the leather to a brilliant shine with a little elbow grease. I prefer to use a leather shiner and conditioner. In this case I am using Kiwi shine sponge to easily bring it to a brilliant shine.pur26 After applying the Kiwi shine sponge your cleaning has been completed.

After Thoughts

pur18Just to be clear there are many ways to clean leather handbags. I also often use leather cleaning product made for this purpose.pur25 I like Force Field leather cleaner and conditioner and Armour All leather care gel. Leather cleaner’s tend to cost a lot of money so my post was about saving you money by cleaning your hand bags with products you might have around the house. Baby shampoo can be substituted for Castile soap.

Look at this hand bag shine!pur27

Don’t Forget The Cleaning of The Inside of Your Bag

Turn your bag upside down after you have emptied it and shake all the crumbs and whatnot’s into the garbage can.pur29 Make sure the inside is completely cleaned out. Pull the inside lining out of the bag. For this spot cleaning I used the Lincoln E-Z cleaner to show you how versatile this spot cleaner is. Apply a little cleaner onto a rag. A white rag would be best. Then gently rub the spots away and let the area dry.pur30

Ta Da. A great looking hand bag inside and out!

Easy On The Go Muffin Omelets

0019This morning I made great tasting omelets. There  were six, three or four bite omelets that are also easy to take on the go. These easy to make delicious omelets can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator for an on the go meal or a hot sit down nosh.
I’ve laid out all the ingredients that I used,  but truth is that any filling can be used. You can literally use any combination of foods that you would normally put in an omelet. I used crumbled bacon, cut up onion and green pepper, and small ground black olives.
o01The fillings should be prepared before you start to assemble the actual muffin omelets. I fried up some bacon and then cut it up. I also cut a little onion and green pepper. I finished off my fillings with tiny pieces of black olives. These were all mixed together in a small bowl as you can see in the picture.
I sprayed the muffin tin with non stick cooking spray. This recipe makes six sized muffin spaces so it needs to be doubled if you are going to make en entire muffin sheet at a time. I highly suggest you do that instead of making six, which is what the recipe calls for. These little muffin omelets will go pretty quick. I guarantee it.
After the tin of muffins is sprayed take your mixed fillings and place a little bit on the bottom of each muffin tin.005 Next sprinkle cheese of any type on top. I used a sprinkle of a Mexican mix and a Mexican crumble cheese to put on top of the fillins’. 006It’s now time to make the egg mixture. I use 4 eggs for 6 muffin tins and 8 eggs for 12 muffin tins. I mix 1/2tsp. of oil for 6 muffin tins and 1tsp. for 12 tins. You get the picture. I am doubling the ingredients if I double how many tins I use. I also add 1/4C. of milk to 4 eggs  or 1/2C. to 8 eggs. The last ingredient I add to the eggs is baking powder. 1/2tsp. to 4 eggs or 1tsp. to 8 eggs.0012 Mix all the ingredients into the eggs and use a fork to mix all the ingredients with the eggs using a fork or whisk. After the eggs are mixed together well, it’s time to pour it over the fillins’ and cheese mixture that is already in the muffin tins.0013
Now I put the muffin tins with the fillings, cheese and egg mixture into the oven. Pre- heat the oven to 375 degrees.0014 After the oven is heated up. Stick the muffin tins into the oven. 0015Cook in the 375 degree oven for 20 to 25 min. I cooked mine for 22 min. They came out cooked and golden brown on top.

I served mine with ketchup and sour cream. They are delicious plain with nothing extra added, also.0017

Eat up. Yum!

How To Organize A Dresser Drawer The Creative Way To Save Space

pj05This can take a long time if you try to clean out and reorganize every drawer you have in one sitting, however if you do a few drawers at a time like I have been doing, you can finish a drawer in 10 to 15 min max. The picture above is the wonderful organized,(you can see everything picture.)
As you can see from my before pictures, or maybe not,  I used to roll my clothing and put them in the drawer all rolled up. It seemed  though that this was not the most effective way to keep the clothes sorted or organized.pj01 I have to admit that I tried the whole roll the clothing thing in the first place because it was  what was suggested  you do if you are packing a suitcase. I thought, “if they get twice as much in a suitcase then I should get twice as much in my dresser drawer’s.” Well, boy was I wrong. The only thing that was happening was that I was forgetting what I owned because I couldn’t see the bottom layer of rolled clothing.
As you can see by what was pulled out of my drawer that it was so tight a fit that the bottom drawer opened when I opened the drawer above it.pj02 Whew, were those drawers stuffed beyond belief. I knew what I needed to do. Reorganize back to my old system.
My old system and now my new system,  consists of folding the clothing in a flat manner then stacking the piles of clothing. After you have a pile stacked about the depth of your drawer, carefully pick up the pile and lay it down in the drawer. The stacks should resemble Pringle’s in the container. You can easily see all the items you own and easily take out and even put back the items just as easily. You can see how nice and flat I was able to fold the shirt and pants together.pj07

pj04This is a picture of all the clothing ( Pajamas to be exact,) that came out of the drawer and the first and last picture’s are what the drawer’s look like now.pj05 Nice and neatly folded,  where I can find what I want, when I want it. Not only that I can actually open and close my drawer’s now with ease.

I do have to admit that I did thin out my pajamas a bit before I put them back in the drawer. I organized 2 drawer’s today. I have to pat myself on the back because I am now one step closer to organizing my house!

Sure Fire Way To Get Wax Out of Carpet

wax07Very recently my daughter picked up one of those round candles you burn in a container for fragrance and while it was still cooling  turned it on it’s side and wax spilled all over my new carpet.
She is 18 and very curious about everything and is constantly touching everything. I am sure you know the type of person I am talking about. Well, in this case her curiosity meant wax on my new carpet.wax00
I read somewhere that if you freeze wax, it will pop right off the carpet. Guess what not true. All that did was make the wax wet and a little hardened.wax04wax05
I was beside myself until I remembered that all I  needed was two household items to get the wax completely out of my carpet and return it to new. An iron and some paper towels. Could it really be this easy? I had nothing to loose as the wax already was ruining the carpet so I dove right in.wax06
I started by heating up the iron to the highest setting. I lay the paper toweling down over the wax and using circular motions ironed over the paper towel.wax09 Be very careful not to leave the iron in one place. Make sure the iron is constantly on the move and on the paper towel. At some points I just used the tip of the iron.wax06
It worked! Every piece of the wax on the carpet came up on the paper towel. I had brand new wax free carpet!

Invigorating A Wreath Into A Christmas Wreath

wreath08We all know that a fun part of Christmas is putting a wreath up on the front door. It is in my house, at least. We all also know that wreaths can be very expensive, so why not get a longer use out of it. I realized that I can buy a wreath in the Fall, and with a few quick changes make it appropriate for the Christmas season as well.wreath04
I paid $7.00 for a Fall type wreath at one of my favorite stores, Tuesday Morning. As you can see, it was a great Fall wreath the way it was. But… It needed a pick me up for the Christmas season.
All it took to magically change this wreath was a few ornaments I had on hand already.wreath07 I pulled the main pumpkin off the original wreath using a wire cutter. I replaced the pumpkin with a bundle of ornaments I glued together using a hot glue gun.
There were gold hues running through the wreath so I used gold ornaments with an accent brown color strategically placed around the wreath. wreath12
The funny thing about creating a Christmas wreath, is that all you need to make a boring Fall wreath fun is a little glitter and bright colors to accent the piece.
I finished gluing a few more ornaments on the wreath spread about the wreath and Waa Laa it was ready for my Christmas door.wreath11
The entire project took me about 10 minutes to complete the new look.
Keep an eye out for my next  up cycled  round Christmas wreath.
